What Is a Landbot?
A landbot is a modified client that accesses the grid and performs automatic searches and land purchases.
Your landbot stole my land! Give it back now or I’ll file an abuse report!
Slow down buddy! First lets get on the same page about stealing, this post explains how it is not realistically possibly for our landbots to steal anything. The simple fact is YOU made a mistake – most likely an innocent one and for that we will not penalize you. At most you will lose a bit of time while you wait for one of our humans to come return your mistake. As far as filing an abuse report – you are free to do so, however you will probably be told one of two things from the Lindens: a) We don’t get involved in resident to resident disputes, or b) The Babenco Brothers always return mistakes, drop Stuck Babenco a notecard and include the location of the parcel and be patient.
How long does it take to have a parcel I sold by mistake returned to me?
Generally it will take a few minutes up to several hours. This depends on how quickly a human sees your notecard. Other factors that play a factor are time zones (even though our bots keep working, our humans need sleep), how obnoxious you are with your request (We will return your mistake, but if you’re a jerk we might make you wait while we deal with more pleasent things). Make sure you check the individual or group that owns the parcel – Just because our bots showed up doesn’t mean we actually won the race. All our purchases are under the group “Super Babenco Bros. Inc.”.
Why do all landbots look the same?
Appearance is of very little value to a landbot. The technical reasons however are that all landbots are avatars, they use the default “Ruth” appearance (as do all avatars in Second Life), what happens is when a client connects to the grid, it passes back and forth appearance specific information. For a landbot it is just extra overhead unnecessary for their task.
Where can I obtain a landbot?
Currently those that operate landbots most likely created them. So you would have to either hire a programmer, or learn to program yourself to obtain one. There was an announcement of an individual claiming to be selling them, but as of yet that claim seems to be vapor ware. In discussions with this individual it became quite clear he did not really even understand how landbots work. Creating a landbot is not a trivial task, nor is it impossible. We welcome new competition and often share useful information with each other. If you create one and use it to steal land, don’t bother us.
How do I prevent a landbot from buying my land?
You can’t, if you mark it for sale at a price range the landbots buy within, chances are one of them will buy it. If you are selling it to a friend make sure to mark it for sale to a Specific User on the land sale screen. If you want to transfer it from group or to a group please read these instructions.
As time permits, I will update this FAQ with more extensive details.
